Competitive Angler Adrian Avena ❤️ The Thrill of the Catch
A little about me
For those of you who don’t know me I’m Adrian Avena, and I’m a professional angler on the Bass Pro Tour and sponsored ambassador for Weego. After receiving my business degree from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, I pursued a career in professional bass fishing. Over the last eight years I’ve had the opportunity to compete in three of the world’s largest circuits.
With the season that just ended in October, I decided to compete in the new Major League Fishing (Bass Pro Tour) series as I was fortunate enough to be invited among the top 80 professional bass anglers in the world. Their new format of catch, weigh, release and knowing exactly what our competitors have during the elimination and championship rounds adds an intensity factor that is unparalleled to any other circuit I have competed in. It makes for more addictive coverage – with more also shown live on TV and online streaming – for the fans of the sport! And that’s one of my personal goals: spread the fun and excitement of fishing to everyone, young and old. You could say, I’ve made fishing my life! And how bad could that possibly be? Along with being a professional angler, I also run a saltwater charter service out of Cape May, NJ in our “off season.” So whether I’m chasing down a trophy, or trying to get my clients on a personal best catch, my livelihood depends on power.
Weego saves my bacon – and $s!
Three years ago I was competing in a pro Bassmaster Elite event and my cranking battery died, leaving me stranded with no options on board. Luckily there was another angler in the area that was able to jump start my cranking battery with jumper cables and I managed to get my fish to the scales. Immediately after the event I searched for a better, less-dependent-on-others solution. I knew there had to be one. I found a local New Jersey jump starting brand called Weego Portable Power. I knew that I could easily help spread the word about Weego because I knew from personal experience that not having one on board could mean not bringing in my catch for prize money. If I believe in it, I use it. Traveling around the country from event to event with all my tournament gear stowed in a truck also requires dependable tools to keep it moving too. On land and water, I wouldn’t leave home without it. Weego is truly my number one piece of emergency equipment.
Weego hunting
When I’m not fishing, I’m in the woods. This past Fall we went on a family bowhunting trip in Wisconsin. During the rut we like to hunt funnels and stagger throughout the woods on the highest trafficked runs. Since we know the impact cold weather has on our cell phone batteries we hunt with Weego’s Tour 10400 battery packs. Sure enough on this cold Wisconsin trip, by late morning everyone’s phone had died. But recharging with the 10400s, we were able to continue communicating and working as a team … and then a mature deer entered our area. Bang! Sorry if you’re squeamish.

My vehicles
Bass Boat: BassCat Eyra, Motor: Suzuki 250SS 4-Stroke, 250 hp
My Weego: Weego 44.1 – It’s got the right amount of power to start the Suzuki without taking up a lot of space in my rear compartment.
Truck: Toyota Tundra, Engine: 5.7 L Gas
My Weego: Weego 66.1 – It’s more jump starting power than I need, but I love using it to top off my phone (I do a lot of texting and social media to stay in touch with family and fans while on the road) and need a bright flashlight, always.
Be sure to catch me and the other pros at majorleaguefishing.com from now through October.
