Weego Jump Starter Battery+ | SR Tested
If you’ve ever walked outside to start your bike only to have your battery let you down, then you know the importance of having a portable charger of some type on hand. Unfortunately, if you own a sportbike, you also know that there’s almost no room to carry said device. So you need something that will jump-start your battery and get you on the road, and you need it to be small.
Enter the Weego Jump Starter Battery +, a portable power pack that weighs less than half a pound and is only minutely bigger than that iPhone 6 you’ve got stuffed in your front pocket (5.5 x 3 x 0.625 inches, to be specific). Thanks to its 6,000 mAh lithium-polymer battery, plus included jumper cables and USB charger, this power pack is able to start gas engines up to 4.6 liters (that includes your motorcycle) and then go on to save your day by putting a fresh charge to your phone, tablet, speaker, or other USB device. So it’s life saving, essentially.
In all seriousness, the Weego Jump Starter Battery + did save our day on multiple occasions, both by bringing one of our tired KTM testbikes back to life after its battery had died and then again when we were out on a ride and our phone had died.
For safety, the Jump Starter Battery + uses a diode in the jumper cables, while for convenience the power pack features a 100-lumen built-in flashlight. The pack has four LEDs to indicate charge status, and the company recommends having all four lights lit before jumping something the size of your car, but even with one light showing we were able to bring life back to a 1,300cc motorcycle. Charging the unit back up can take more than the suggested 1.5 hours when using a standard wall charger, but the unit did seem to keep its charge for an impressive amount of time (Weego says the Jump Starter + will only lose 2 to 5 percent of its charge per month when stored).
